About the Project

The Diggers & Diners Club is currently in its third year of operation at River City High School. This student-centered club is at the epicenter of the locally grown food movement. Our students grow fruits and vegetables on a small parcel of campus, sell the produce to the faculty and community members and use the proceeds to dine at area restaurants that embrace the farm-to-fork philosophy. The program is critically needed as parts of West Sacramento are food deserts, areas void of healthy food choices, which forces students into unhealthy dietary decisions. The grant allows us to replace and update garden infrastructure, foster and promote the club’s mission in the school and the local community, fund field trips and other educational opportunities, and provide valuable learning resources.
