About the Project
Our project “United in the Community,” will allow our students to engage with the community in order to learn, collaborate, come up with ideas, and find solutions. Students will learn about opportunities and ways to access what they, their family, and their community needs. The project will include lessons about the community, using culturally relevant picture books and texts, as well as supplemental learning resources, school neighborhood field trips to city hall, the fire station, and the main library. The lower grades will do a cartography project that reflects the neighborhood community with ideas for what they would like to see incorporated. The upper grades will design and implement a community service project.
