About the Project

HANDS Academy Secondary, a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program operated by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, seeks support to establish a Digital Media Skills Corner that will provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop career-ready skills in photography and digital media. This initiative will expand access to hands-on, visually based learning experiences that align with the strengths and interests of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students while preparing them for future educational and employment opportunities. The Digital Media Skills Corner will create a learning environment where students can access instruction and support in American Sign Language (ASL), reducing communication barriers and ensuring equitable access to skill development. Students will engage in authentic, hands-on learning experiences that strengthen technical abilities, problem-solving skills, and self-expression. The space will also provide additional support for students enrolled in mainstream digital media courses, allowing them extra time and resources to complete projects and reinforce learning. Ultimately, this project will empower Deaf and Hard of Hearing students with practical vocational skills, broaden career possibilities, and promote greater equity and inclusion in career preparation.

Meet the Project Coordinator

Anthony Davis

As a high school teacher of students who are Deaf/hard-of hearing, I am always looking for ways to enable my students to not become statistics. I am very proud to say this project is student inspired. I was developing writing prompts when I saw the email for the IFT grant proposal. The student suggestions for what they would do with the IFT money is how AMP was created.
