About the Project
This project is designed to strengthen cultural identity, literacy, and student engagement by providing meaningful opportunities for students to explore Cambodian history, language, traditions, and community contributions. Inspired by the educator’s experience serving on a Southeast Asian scholarship committee, the project addresses a need observed among many Cambodian students who have limited knowledge of their cultural heritage and family histories. By creating opportunities for students to connect with their roots, the project seeks to foster a stronger sense of belonging, pride, and self-confidence.
Meet the Project Coordinator
Bandaul Chansy
I am a Kindergarten teacher with the Long Beach Unified School District, where I am passionate about helping every child develop a love of learning through inclusive and culturally responsive instruction. I serve as my school's CTA Site Representative, a California Teachers Association State Council Delegate, and an NEA Representative Assembly Delegate. As a Cambodian American refugee, I was inspired to create this project to preserve Southeast Asian histories and cultures while providing educators with meaningful resources that help every student feel seen, valued, and connected.
