About the Project

This project takes an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to transform learning into an authentic, real-world experience. Through a field trip to Moonwater Farm, students will explore sustainable agriculture, interact with farm animals, participate in hands-on workshops, sample farm-grown products, and learn directly from local business owners. This immersive experience will serve as the foundation for students to develop a deeper understanding of business operations, product development, and the relationship between agriculture and the local economy. Building on their experiences at the farm, students will work collaboratively to design, develop, and operate their own small businesses. Using skills learned in English, Math, and Economics classes, students will conduct market research, create business plans, develop products, calculate costs and profits, design marketing materials, and make informed business decisions. Throughout the process, they will strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and financial literacy skills while applying academic concepts in meaningful and authentic ways. The project will culminate in a school-based pop-up market where students will sell their products and engage directly with customers.
