About the Project
Elsinore Drum Circle (EDC) is a school climate and counseling initiative that uses rhythm, positive energy, and enthusiasm to bring students and school counselors together in a welcoming, fun, and inclusive space. Through a shared drum circle experience, participants from all cultures and backgrounds can connect, collaborate, and enjoy this distinctive experience via self-expression—no musical experience required! The group will intentionally reach out to students who may feel disconnected from traditional school activities, particularly those not involved in athletics or clubs. By creating a space where every rhythm matters, EDC helps students experience belonging while increasing student engagement in school life.
Meet the Project Coordinator
Frank Fravel
1. I am a 9–12 High School Counselor at Elsinore High School, where I support students in their academic, college and career, and social-emotional development. In addition to my counseling role, I also teach an online College Success and Career Readiness course at a community college. 2. I am a proud member of the Lake Elsinore Teachers Association and have served in a variety of leadership roles throughout my career. I have led and supported initiatives focused on college and career readiness, dual enrollment, FAFSA completion, mentoring, and student engagement. Through the EDC Drum Circle, I look forward to creating a new opportunity that supports school climate, student wellness, and meaningful connections between students and staff. 3. The inspiration for the EDC Drum Circle comes from two places. First, I am proud of my Native American heritage, where drumming has long been a powerful way to build community, celebrate culture, and bring people together. Second, as a high school counselor, I see that while many students find connection through sports, clubs, or performing arts, nearly one-third do not participate in any school activity. I wanted to create an inclusive space where every student feels welcome, regardless of experience or ability. My hope is that the Elsinore Drum Circle will foster positive relationships, improve student engagement, and create natural, organic opportunities for students to connect with school counselors and one another through the shared experience of rhythm.
