About the Project
This project will create an immersive, curriculum aligned Chemistry Escape Room experience for approximately 300 CP Chemistry students at Highland High School. The escape room will be used as a hands on instructional and assessment tool that allows students to apply chemistry concepts in a collaborative and engaging way. Students will work in small teams to solve chemistry based challenges that require them to balance equations, calculate molar mass, use mole ratios and apply concepts such as conservation of mass and percent yield in order to progress through the room. Rather than reviewing content through worksheets or lectures, students will actively demonstrate their understanding by solving real problems under time constraints. The escape room will be built using durable, reusable materials so it can be implemented across multiple class periods and used year after year. This project blends experiential learning with required chemistry standards and provides students with an opportunity to build confidene, problem solving skills and academic persistence while mastering essential chemistry content.
Meet the Project Coordinator
Jasmine Tatman
I am the Activities Director at Highland High School and have previously co-taught in Chemistry with an amazing team of educators. Throughout my time in education I have developed a passion for creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students. I enjoy supporting both my students and my colleagues by developing innovative instructional resources that can be shared and expanded across departments. The Highland Great Science Race combines my interests in experiential learning, collaboration, and science education to help students apply chemistry concepts through problem-solving and teamwork.
