About the Project
In 2017, Maxwell Elementary School flooded. Our junior high students lost almost $2,000 worth of books that had recently been purchased using proceeds from our Scholastic book fair. The books had been cataloged and were sitting on the floor ready to be put on shelves. The library was already terribly understocked. The students were devastated. We simply needed more books, and nothing is better than a student recommending a book to a peer. My project enables our students to create grade-level teams to research, select, purchase, and then bring back, books for their peers.
