About the Project

This project introduces a Serial Crime Podcast unit in which students serve as members of a Cold Case Task Force investigating a fictional murder on campus. Working in investigative teams, students examine witness statements, analyze evidence, construct timelines, explore possible motives, debate competing interpretations, and develop claims supported by evidence. Their final task is to produce an investigative podcast episode explaining their theory of the crime and the reasoning behind their conclusions.A key component of the project is a collaboration with our school’s forensics class. Forensics students will introduce basic forensic science principles, explain how investigators analyze physical evidence, and help interpret details from the case. They will also provide feedback on how realistic each investigative theory may be. This partnership allows both groups of students to apply their learning in a shared, real-world scenario.

Meet the Project Coordinator

Stacey Hunt

I am a 12th grade English teacher at Silverado High School and previously served as the school's English Department Chair. I am passionate about designing authentic, project-based learning experiences that engage students while building critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. Inspired by the success of a Serial true crime podcast unit I taught last year, I envisioned an interdisciplinary collaboration with the school's Forensics class. Through this grant-funded project, forensics students will use the investigative techniques they learn in class to solve a fictional murder on campus, while my English students will investigate the case, write scripts, and produce a true crime-style podcast that uncovers the mystery from beginning to end.
