About the Project

Social isolation and nature disconnection are two concurrent challenges impacting teens. Dungeons & Gardens aims to resolve both issues through collaborative game play; small scale gardening (terrariums) and public small world garden exhibits. Dungeons & Dragons is a self-led collaborative cooperative game with fantastical elements that fosters creativity, problem-solving, communication, and intra-personal relationships (friendships). Games require students to develop their own in-game character represented by a figurine. Students will 3D print their own character figurine (3D scanned from clay model or modeled in 3D modeling software) from biodegradable PLA filaments, and create and maintain a terrarium representative of their character’s home environment. Additionally, students will design, print, and set-up small world garden exhibits based on scenes from their fantastical game events in public areas to increase awareness and interest in the community.
