About the Project

Make It Count (MiC) is a Tier 2 academic support program designed to help high school students who are at-promise build the skills, habits, and support systems necessary to succeed in school. The program identifies students demonstrating patterns of two or more D/F grades or those recommended by teachers and provides structured weekly check-ins with a mentor teacher, targeted tutoring support, and organizational coaching. During weekly 30–45 minute sessions, students review their grades, track assignments, set goals, and receive support from trained peer tutors. Students learn practical academic strategies such as time management, planner use, email communication with teachers, and assignment completion planning. Progress is monitored through data tracking and regular reflection.
MiC also connects students with additional academic supports including office hours, tutoring sessions, and Academic Saturday School. By combining mentorship, accountability, and peer support, Make It Count helps students rebuild confidence, strengthen academic habits, and stay on track toward graduation and future success.

Meet the Project Coordinator

Kristel Hernandez

I wear two hats at Eleanor Roosevelt High School: 10th grade English co-teacher and Make It Count (MTSS, Tier 2) Coordinator. My favorite part of both roles is building relationships with students and helping them realize they're capable of more than they think. This grant will help us expand the impact of the Make It Count intervention program by giving students the tools, experiences, and support they need to thrive in school and beyond.
