About the Project
Currently, Carver Early Childhood Education Center has over 200 students with special needs. Many students require some form of sensory stimuli to aide in their ability to access the curriculum. Often, teachers spend their own money to buy resources they feel are going to benefit the students. Although we have an occupational therapist who visits our campus, it is not enough if we are not given resources to test and implement within the classroom. Therefore, our proposal consists of three main components: Flexible seating and sensory toys within the classroom;, “Calming’ activities for a Sensory Room; and Additional equipment and toys in a Check-out Room.
